Citology, Ltd. Secures Patent for Revolutionary cIToStack™ Technology, Transforming Digital Pathology Data Management
PRAGUE, Czech Republic – cITology Ltd., a technology company specializing in solutions for digital cytopathology and precision medicine, today announced that it has been granted a patent for its proprietary cIToStack™ technology. This breakthrough invention addresses one of the most critical bottlenecks in digital cytopathology: the management of massive Whole Slide Imaging (WSI) data.
As digital cytopathology adoption accelerates, laboratories and hospitals face escalating costs related to data storage and hardware requirements. WSI files, particularly those used in cytology, are notoriously large and difficult to manage. Citology’s newly patented cIToStack™ offers a scanner-independent solution that dramatically reduces file sizes while maintaining absolute data integrity.
Breaking Down the Data Barrier
The cIToStack™ technology is compatible with various scanner image formats, making it a versatile tool for diverse clinical environments. Its primary innovation lies in its ability to compress WSI files significantly without the loss of primary cell data—a crucial requirement for accurate medical diagnosis.
Performance benchmarks for the technology have shown impressive results. For a typical Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) cytology sample, cIToStack™ successfully reduced file sizes from the standard 4–5.5 GB down to just 0.4–1.2 GB.
Furthermore, this efficiency does not come at the cost of workflow speed.
